Who knows where good grub can be found?

I've been eating a lot of Sultan's Market lately.

Food!

All of those restaraunts sound wonderful! Thanks for posting them, I've never been to Chicago.. However I have little to no money to spend on food, I looked up the earliest Food Not Bombs serving but I will probably be in Chicago for almost a week.. are there any of those places friendly with their end of the day unwanted foods? Or are there any weekly free community meals other then the Food Not Bombs branch? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure about end of the day food or community meals, unfortunately. I imagine with a little google researchin you could find some tips for eating for cheap or free in Chicago. I'll ask around and see if I turn up anything.

Food Places Near 826CHI

Food near the fest locations:

Within a block or two of 826 CHI:

(2 blocks north) Filter Cafe - open til 10pm

Sandwiches, fries/sweet potato fries, good coffee, juice/smoothies, large coffeeshop atmosphere. Can be hard to find seating. http://www.yelp.com/biz/filter-chicago

(3 blocks south) Veggie Bite - open til 10pm

All vegan fast food joint, and I do mean fast food, like McDonalds quality. Ignore all the annoying signage that says "Healthy" and "Natural." Really good fries (and cheese fries, and chili cheese fries). They have milkshakes but they're watery McDonalds style milkshakes. Save your milkshake room for one of the several other awesome places in Chicago that you can get amazing vegan milkshakes.

(2 blocks south) Jewel Osco Grocery Store

(3 blocks south, across from Veggie Bite) Eat First - open til 11pm

Your run of the mill, hole in the wall chinese place. It gets the job done.

North, up the street a little further toward the six corners:

The Wormhole Coffeeshop - open til midnight

Best Coffee in the area, in my opinion. Has delicious vegan donuts and muffins. Other snacky type foods if you're not vegan. Can be hard to find seating. The Wormhole is supplying coffee for exhibitors during the fest!

Cumin - Indian/Nepalese - open til 10pm

If you want something a little fancier ($15 price range). Never been there so I can't vouch for it.

There are a lot of bars in this little stretch with bar food.

Crocodile gives you a free slice of pizza when you buy a beer I guess? People also like to go there for dancing.

Earwax Cafe - unfortunately the infamous Earwax Cafe closed for business at the end of February after 20 years! So don't plan on an Earwax trip.

Bongo Room - open til 2pm

Only serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. I hear people raving about this place all the time. NO vegan options, so I've never been. But if you're not vegan, it might be worth checking out. They serve brunch that looks full-on like dessert. There's usually a decent sized wait during weekend brunch times.

There's a Jimmy John's in there somewhere.

Once you get up to the 6 corners

Skewerz - open til 2am on weekends

"Island Fusion" cuisine. has decent vegan options and is quick and cheap. Smallish portions, so order a couple things. Good late night option.

Avoid Flash Taco. Never been, but this is what I hear.....

Soul Vegetarian East/Ste Martaen Vegan Food Truck

You can call or text them at 312-857-4393 http://stemartaen.com/food-truck/

we're going to do our best to

we're going to do our best to get the food truck to park outside of the day of exhibiting during lunch hours!
